Details
Project Scope:
  • Identification of prospective gem bearing areas/horizons in Bajaur and Mohmand Agencies.
  • Preparation of detailed geological maps of the identified areas on different scale as per requirement in the field to delineate mineralized zones.
  • Preparation of detailed structural maps for understanding various behaviours of the prospective host rocks.
  • Pitting, trenching and aditing on most favorable gem prospects to access quality and quantity of the available gems.
  • Resource assessment.
  • Submission of final report

Present Status:
Tasks Completed:
  • Reconnaissance Geological Survey of 880 sq km.
  • Regional geological mapping of 465 sq.km area on 1:50,000 scale.
  • Prospect scale mapping of 9.5 sq.km on 1: 10,000 scale.
  • 33 No. incline/trenches/pits excavated, 110 Nos. samples collected out of which 53 were selected for petro graphic and gemological studies. 
  • Gem-bearing areas i.e., Tora Tiga, Khazana Sar in Mohmand and Khan Salai, Amankot, Manasar in Bajaur Agency delineated.
  • Emerald, Green, Red and Hassonite Garnets, Actinolite, Clinochlore, Epidote, Tourmaline and Beryl identified in Bajaur Agency while Emerald, Beryl, Tourmaline, Epidote, axinite reported from Mohmand Agency.
  • Detail reports regarding Tora Tiga area, Mohmand Agency and Khan Salai area, (Barang), Bajaur Agency provided to FATA Secretariat for possible investment by private sector.
  • Drivage of 3.4 meter exploratory adit at Khan Salai, Bajaur Agency.
  • Further studies are in progress.
